There actually might be a solution to this that could be good enough. In the portlet result, we can leave dispatching of the JSP to an intermediate servlet. This servlet can create the request wrappers, and then dispatch to the actual JSP with the wrapper. It should be portable, and not break any specs (as the PreparatorServlet did). However, I'm not 100% sure if there will be any side effects, so I'll "mark" it as experimental to begin with. I'll create the JIRA issue and try it out.
