Dave, I feel your pain man! And I don't mean to break your spirit, but this has been an issue for years and years ... and not just here. A while back, someone on a different ASF users list used to send people a link to a page that ended with "idiot.html" and while it was quite humorous to those of us who 'get it', he got a lot of flack for it.
I agree that the docs could use a lot more example usages, but if people are going to post without hitting google first, they won't look at a new FAQ first either. One of my favorite responses when people ask, "Can I do this with a (fill in the blank)" is to ask them "what happened when you tried it?". People are just going to keep doing the same thing they have always done and there's not really a lot we can do. One of the signs of a thriving framework is when a bunch of newbs come in and ask the same question 15 different ways, sometimes within the same day. In a very recent gig, I would have developers come up to me (wanting me to help them with some issue) and say things like ... "James, I'm trying to make 1 link to go download my action, but my jsp is not finding." ... not kidding here. You talk about teeth-pulling? What kind of question is that? Usually, I make them show me what they are doing while I watch over their shoulder so I can figure out for myself what they were failing to put into a proper question ... aggravating to say the least. Believe me! I feel you pain! Anyway, good luck!
