I guess it would be helpful to know what the open files per process
limit is on your login, or on OS X Snow Leopard as a whole. That's
'ulimit -n' in bash and some other shells, or 'ulimit -a' to see them
all.
$ ulimit -n
256
Note that I gave Kamesh access to the repository I used to produce the
problem and he was going to debug and see where it is failing.
I have created an Issue (Issue#3870
