Sorry, I didn't actually try Yannic's suggestion; I just assumed it worked. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I solved this problem in my Ruby wmiirc by watching for the ClientCreate event and forcing the new window onto the current view by writing the value of the current tag to that new window's /client/.../tags file.
