I noticed that when using tabbed (with either surf or xterm), that if the window is focused with the mouse over another window, I am able to send keystrokes to tabbed (next/previous tab, for example), but am not able to send keystrokes so the surf or xterm window. I have to manually move my mouse over the tabbed window before I am then able to type in that window.
I'm also running dwm, in case that makes any difference.
