I think if you take the names _and_ the width of the cells into account, it would be possible to uncover the table structure. E.g.: a missed C2 does not mean that C1 has a row span, but when you add the width of A2+B2 and you add the widths of A1+B1+.. until you got the same width, you will find the cell with the row span.
No other way how to uncover table structures? Direct XML data access?
Of course storing into ODF and analyzing the ODF file is another possibility.
Anything else? Even something extremely complicated, but 100 % working
:( Bad news this morning ...
As said, a smart algorithm with usage of width and name should be able to do this job.
