The Task has to do with the StartCenter for OpenOffice.org, currently the
startcenter just have some basic menu depending on the type of file you
want to open. The goal is to make it more interactive, but some of these
applications might be AJAX ones and there is where we need to know how
balance do we want to go in that area.
Having AJAX applications could represent some aditional overhead that OOo
might not have. Things like an outdated Javascript engine that would be
incompatible with the current state of JS.
Other things like CSS interpretor and just overal take on the HTML render
capabilities.
About the Dashboard concept, there is a wiki page on this page:

I guess we would need a bit more information about the task.
Could you point us to the task list of the mentoring organizsation with
the description of the task?
Thanks
Stefan

Hi We are launching a task for the Google Summer of Code, however we
need more information and recruiting the needed mentors to get this
project started. We want to know more information about the Javascript
engine from OOo as well as HTML.
Is XHTML 1.1 fully supported or just XHTML 1.0 and also how fast is
the Javascript/EcmaScript. The original task is that we can have a more
web-oriented dashboard when yo ustart OOo so we can get more
functionality out there.
