It seems that the "housekeeping" coded from SYNCOPE-735 into the
{{ActivitiUserWorkflowAdapter}} is too much expensive.
A better solution might be to avoid writing historical records, if not strictly
needed: this can be achieved by leveraging Activiti's [history
configuration|http://www.activiti.org/userguide/#historyConfig].
