   @SamuelGaro I'm a little confused by this. utf8mb4_unicode_ci is another 
case insensitive collation, but this is needed to support case-sensitive 
queries according to the title.
   
   I quite agree that `utf8mb4_general_ci` shouldn't be used. 
`utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci` is a more modern collation than `utf8mb4_unicode_ci` 
and `utf8mb4_uca1400_ai_ci` is available since 10.11 (and default from 11.5+).
   
   What was the problem this was solving?
   
   I've found a few of the other embarrassing MariaDB bugs. I'll attempt to 
look at them.
