Previously we discussed directly switching to JDK 11, Spark 3, and Hadoop 3 and releasing again. After thinking more carefully about it, I would propose to now make the switch to JDK 11 (I have the PR ready) but continue with normal release cycles in the hope of getting enough time to test with (and tune for) the new JVM and Spark characteristics.
