I know. I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works. Must be some special spam assassin rules in place for commits that don't apply to the other lists.

That's wierd, you should be able to do a single replay all on the commit message and it will mark the user, Kent in this case, as allowed to post, regardless of whether they are subscribed to the list.
