I think it's still originating from the same gmail account. This does bring up a possible usability bug in the gmail To: field suggestion list...in that it should probably maintain a different set of frequently used contacts / ordering when you change the from field to be something other than the default.
So....really this is gmail's fault, but I guess we can forgive them if they don't know about it..
