Hi,
I'd like to go forward with this - at last :) - for quite a few
reasons, but the most important being
1) not wanting us to lose metadata - see
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TAPESTRY-2718)
and 2) easier staging of snapshots, easier voting of a release
(candidate) and easier promoting to release

Some pointers on the process are:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1896 and (most importantly)
http://maven.apache.org/developers/release/releasing.html

The changes that i foresee once we agree to this:
- open a jira to track our changes
- add a subtask in http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1896
- change our parent pom to include as parent org.apache.apache version 6, see
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/org/apache/apache/6/apache-6.pom
- remove definitions of distributionManagement.repository and
distributionManagement.snapshotRepository
The org.apache.apache parent pom takes care of that
- Never deploy to the old repositories - nexus will copy everything
from there and infra should mark
the folders read-only at some point.
- Update and republish our Release Checklist to align with
http://maven.apache.org/developers/release/releasing.html
(which btw would resolve https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TAPESTRY-2718)

The code changes should be applied to all trunks (i'm willing to work
on all those), i.e.
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tapestry/tapestry4/trunk/
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tapestry/tapestry5/trunk
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tapestry/tapestry5/branches/5.0/

The only potential problem i can think of is dealing with the common
files that exist in both
http://people.apache.org/repo/m2-ibiblio-rsync-repository/org/apache/tapestry/
and
http://people.apache.org/~hlship/tapestry-ibiblio-rsynch-repository/
I'm thinking in the worst case this will be the last manual patching
we'll need to do.

Anyway, I'd like to open this for discussion - if there's no major
objections, we turn this into a vote
and start with the changes
