Hi, The standaard grid component is indeed somewhat delimited in its capabilities, but nothing will stand in your way to pick up the code and extend it to your needs.
We have done a same thing, i have created 'Weaves' with a 'pageable' grid component : http://intercommitweavesdemo.intercommit.cloudbees.net/pagedgriddemo This grid will not query for the total amount of rows, has checkboxes per row, auto row css selection and more. This is also the power of Tapestry, you can pickup the existing components and craft them to what you need.
