This is just a list of project ideas that potential mentors have come up with. If you have an idea, you can just discuss it here on the mailing lists and try to find a mentor for it.
If the Apache Software Foundation gets accepted as a mentoring organization (most likely it will) you can than simply submit your proposal to Google Melange when the student application phase starts.
