Hi Folks,
FYI
Summary
The in-tree Intel® SGX DCAP driver is in Ubuntu kernels 5.11 & newer. There is
a known bug that affects kernels newer than 5.11.16. The bug has been
experienced when setting up a SGX based LibOS on an ICX SGX-enabled server with
kernel 5.11.17 as well as stable kernels 5.13.11 & 5.13.12. Kernels
5.11.13-5.11.16 were tested but did not experience the bug.

Known Bugs
Known bugs with kernels past 5.11.16+ kernels (confirmed existence starting
with 5.11.17):
• Bug #1926938: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04,
not Focal 20.04 LTS
o Mainline wiki states that the mainline kernels are built with the
previous LTS toolchain, but the recent 5.12.x and 5.11.x releases are being
built with Hirsuite 21.04, and before that Groovy?
o If this is intentional, then the wiki should be updated to reflect the
change in policy.
o See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

• Bug #1927024: Mainline kernel builds more recent than 5.11.16 are
busted on ubuntu 20.10 / 20.04 (LTS)
o Duplicate of Bug #1926938 (listed above)

Testing
• Kernels WITHOUT bug:
The following kernels have been confirmed NOT to have an issue:
o 5.11.13
 The team is testing on 5.11.13 (no issue).
o 5.11.15
o 5.11.16
• Kernels WITH bug:
The following kernels have been confirmed to have an issue:
o 5.11.17 - 1st 5.11 kernel with bug
o 5.13.11 - stable kernel as of 2021-08-15
o 5.13.12 - stable kernel as of 2021-08-18
See kernel.org for list of stable releases.
