GitHub user asadya2 added a comment to the discussion: Scala vs. Java: What's the future?
I am not in academia, but I do mentor Computer Science students. I am encouraging them to contribute to the OSS projects to be better prepared for the professional career. I have all of them starting to onboard to the Texera codebase and you should see PRs starting to come in. They'll start picking some of the starter tasks that have already been identified. As for Scala vs. Java, I see that later changes have started to use Java, so I wanted to ask if it has been a strategic decision to shift development to Java or more based on skills availability and feature goals. For students, giving them an implementation that has already been vetted and aligns with the overall design, and asking them to migrate it to Java gives them a relatively easier task. I was asking the question from that perspective.
