Peace C commented on THRIFT-1870:
---------------------------------
You're right that it was my original intent to support anonymous pipes under
*NIX. My apologies for not making that clear and misunderstanding your
approach. *NIX anonymous pipes are a low priority for us since we don't use
them on that platform, and there hasn't been any demand from others AFAIK. It
sounds like you have more experience with *NIX anonymous pipes. I'd be curious
to see how that's implemented if you feel up to the task. I had some
experimental code but never got around to testing it. Honestly I doubted
whether it had much chance of working :)
Someone had proposed pulling out the anonymous pipe transport into its own file
which has its merits. It might end up with some duplicated code but I'm not
sure until I see it pulled apart.
Question about your approach typedef'ing TPipe to TSocket : Did you get a
chance to test it under *NIX? I have a vague recollection that it caused us
some issues building our application but I need to revisit that to be sure.

> This patch adds support for Windows 64-bit builds by using std::ptrdiff_t to
> represent Windows' pipe HANDLE. It also restores cross-platform *NIX support
> that was broken in THRIFT-1690.
> See contrib/transport-sample for a working cross-platform example of how to
> use TPipe[Server]. I tested all permutations of Win32/64-bit clients with
> Win32/64-bit servers and they were happy. Also tested successfully on OSX.
