I agree that the issue is a real one, and should be fixed (or at least give
clients a path to making it work right). It has caused me some issues in the
past as well. The solution I chose at the time was to use a different server
type that was already based on select(). That server type hasn't been
upstreamed though, so it doesn't really help you out.
