Interesting - I thought that the thrift compiler was statically linked; the ldd
output contradicts Roger's requirement that it have no additional dependencies.
The {{--without-cpp}} option is for the runtime library, not the compiler.
The compiler always builds. Boost can static link on all supported platforms,
so it is still the best option for what you are trying to accomplish.
