A separate related issue:
go get git.apache.org/thrift.git/lib/go/thrift doesn't work for me (I suppose
due to problems with apache infrastructure):

# cd .; git clone git.apache.org/thrift
/home/ksh/work/go/src/git.apache.org/thrift.git
fatal: repository 'git.apache.org/thrift' does not exist
package git.apache.org/thrift.git/lib/go/thrift: exit status 128

git ls-remote git://git.apache.org/thrift.git/lib/go/thrift returns error as
well:

fatal: read error: Connection reset by peer
