This issue stalled; there's an open pull request for cpp that needs to be
refreshed: https://github.com/apache/thrift/pull/731/files
The original issue goes back to 2010: THRIFT-964
Do we know that every language implementation can support the float type
properly?
Is this something we want to continue to pursue?
