We've put in a fair amount of work into the configuration and robustness of
tika-server. I think it would be useful to enable users and even other modules
within Tika to add custom handlers within tika-server and to get the
configuration and robustness "for free."
My initial use case would be a handler for tika-eval. I see this
functionality, tho, supporting the "forwarding" handlers that could be used as
a replacement for Solr's DIH.
I don't want to integrate any of the above into the main tika-server, but I do
want to make them possible.
Again, the answer to the "why not just let folks create their own
services/servers" is that I'd like to prevent developers from having to
reinvent some of the wheels that we've reinvented already. :D
