My knowledge is limited, but in general it sounds great. As usual we/you need to carefully decide what we want to maintain in tika or fix upstream in metadata-extractor.. no hard opinion on this, I've obviously added functionality to tika myself that could have been added to metadata-extractor -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
