Hi all, I just wanted to get our thoughts out in the open about where we see Apache Tiles going.
I think Antonio has already announced his intentions to eventually go emeritus. At some point I'd like to do the same, although I'm willing to stick around as long as I need to. I guess we're essentially trying to reconstitute the project. It's basically like going through the Incubator with Antonio and I (and Nathan) as mentors. Once the "new" PMC is established and running smoothly we will likely elect a new chair and Antonio and I, and I presume Nathan, will go emeritus and let you guys rock on. In fact I will probably include a statement to this effect in our board report which is due this month. Since Mck and Nicolas have not been Apache people for a long time I'm willing to stick around in the background and help keep the project in the nebulous Apache Way as much as possible. I've been on a few PMCs, but I've never been a Release Manager. So I hope Antonio will stick around long enough to mentor us through a release without him. Or if there's another experienced RM listening we'd appreciate whatever help we can get on that front. Other than that, I intend to let Mck and Nicolas, as the active committers, drive the direction of the project. I'll step in where I can. I'm reading the threads, and I'll offer my opinion when I have one. But I'm going to leave it up to you guys to decide where the APIs should go, etc.. I'd also encourage you to be on the lookout for others who would be valuable contributors so we can grow the community. Have them sign up to the dev@ list and start making their voices heard. We'll get them on board. Thanks, Greg
