Sorry, I haven't had time to follow this closely. But I wanted to make
a couple of points about the umbrella issue AIUI.

* I don't think we're in any danger of that. I also don't think we
need to be pushing too hard at the moment to get the subprojects
pushed out. We are in the middle of a rebuild of our own community
right now and I don't think we need to try too hard to start new ones
:-)

* The problem with the umbrella project is one of oversight. When you
have a large community where most of the people only care about small
portions of the code you end up with one of two situations: either
lots of folks are voting for releases they didn't have anything to do
with and don't plan to support, or you have releases being held up
because they can't get enough of the PMC to vote on them. It also
tends to hide when a portion of the project is not getting adequate
oversight. The PMC as a whole is large and diverse enough to make it
appear there is adequate oversight, but there may be a subproject
that's not getting any love.

I think our approach should be to keep an eye on things and see if
communities develop around these subprojects. As they do we may spin
them off as their own TLPs.
