I couldn't find an announcement from Apache although the websites no longer
reference HipChat and only reference Slack.

The only thing I could find is this:
"Atlassian and Slack have forged a new strategic partnership. We'll be
discontinuing Hipchat and Stride, and are providing a migration path to
Slack for all our customers."
