I'm not sure what you mean by a "mistake" or "never recovers". Please provide an example.
As for the second half of your question about a "gremlinUI", i'm not sure what you mean by that. I tend to find the standard Gremlin Console just right for experimenting and proving out ideas which i then turn into production code. Could you expand your thoughts on where you're going with that?
