Generally, I recommend that folks keep a vote open on the dev list unless its obvious that you aren't going to get votes for weeks. Your project mentors are generally more friendly, and understand things better than the IPMC at large. (ask me how I know ;) ) That said, you can't release until you have a enough positive binding votes and more binding votes than not. (This also plays into how it works post-graduation - a lot of times you will need to chase busy PMC members to vote to be able to kick a release out.) Your first release will also take a lot of time to review - that's the hard one. In my experience that takes a minimum of two hours for each of the mentors, and you have source and binaries; we're doing things like auditing the signatures, hashes, auditing licenses, license headers, ensuring that the source you tossed out actually matches what is in git at the commit rev you referenced. We're also looking (as James called out) for PPMC members to be demonstrating that they understand what they should be checking from a policy and legal perspective. --David
