If you want a bealt, suspenders, and girdle apprroach to make sure this
works on NCSA Mosaic, you can do this:

    <picture>
      <source type="image/svg" src="tomcat.svg" />
      <img src="tomcat.png" alt="[tomcat logo]" />
    </picture>

I'm not sure of a spec-compliant way to specify the "alt text" for a
<picture>.
