How about an "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.1" request? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Methods/OPTIONS https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7231#section-4.3.7 Does Tomcat respond to it by itself, without passing the request to servlets?
