Summary: Startup error logging is useless
           Product: Tomcat 5
           Version: 5.5.20
          Platform: Macintosh
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo:
        ReportedBy:

I'm trying to run LifeRay from http://www.liferay.com. I've put it into the
webapps folder, but I get this
error message in catalina.out:

May 9, 2007 8:18:55 PM org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig deployWAR
INFO: Deploying web application archive liferay-portal-4.2.2.war
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger
(org.apache.commons.digester.Digester).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
May 9, 2007 8:19:08 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext start
SEVERE: Error listenerStart
May 9, 2007 8:19:08 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext start
SEVERE: Context [/liferay-portal-4.2.2] startup failed due to previous errors

I'm not asking for tech support on setting up this application. What I AM
asking for is a stack trace
showing the exception plus any root cause that prevented this from starting. At
this point, there is not
much that I can do to get the application to work, and that is Tomcat's fault
for eating the error instead
of printing it to the log.
