Bug ID: 70278
Summary: HTTP 500 when user knows too many languages
Product: Tomcat 10
Version: 10.1.61
Hardware: PC
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Connectors
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ------
Changelog for 10.1.61 says "Optimize Accept-Language header processing and use
of resource budles for localization. (remm)", presumably referring to
https://github.com/apache/tomcat/commit/a0be386444d449ed6b2caa4b4ff74d9ed1b864ea
Some of our users now get HTTP 500 errors because their browser is sending more
than 10 entries in the Accept-Language header. Note that some browsers send
"en-US" and "en" if "English (US)" is configured, so users with six languages
in their browser settings might exceed the limit already.
What was the rationale for the default value of 10 for maxLocaleCount? If it
really needs to be bounded, the default probably should be much higher to avoid
breaking webapps when updating Tomcat.
Also, should this really cause an HTTP 500 or is HTTP 400 maybe more
appropriate? (With a helpful message like "HTTP 400 You Know Too Many
Languages" ;-) )
