Given the minimal information provided, I am going to assume that the EL is invalid and that the stricter EL parsing that has been introduced over the life time of Tomcat 7 is the reason that this now fails. The users list is the place to seek help with this in the first instance. Feel free to re-open this issue if the discussion on the users list identifies a bug.
