The PR (https://github.com/apache/tomee/pull/162) was merged to 7.1.x branch 
only (from what I can see in the PR in GitHub) and includes a related test-case 
:)

As it is related to the changes discussed in 
http://tomee-openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/TomEE-8-Jsonb-Provider-td4684419.html 
- it may also be worth to check the described behavior in version 8.x.x - this 
could be a way to go.
