Well, that's more a personal choice. I reply to your thread since you asked for help and no other reply was present in it. By the time I opened the related tickets, I saw TOMEE-2496 in status Work In Progress and that triggers my attention. Usually, if I see a thread without responses, then I check first the Jira ticket status to double check if I can do the follow-up or not.
