sorry for the delay in answering. I finally managed to put at least the
diploma thesis up. It gives an idea of how the testtool is designed. As
you can see its almost 10 years old (looks like an aniversary to
celebrate) but a lot is still working the same way. Its here:

The following days I will start a technical documentation of the
testtool in the wiki. I will also put parts of the diplome there (at
least some images) and have the text translated and updated.

Please put the thesis online. I think stardict can help me.
Because of the changes have made in Redoffice product, some of the
instructions in testtool may crash Redoffice. For example: when testtool
run ResetApplication instruction, Redoffice crashes. Preliminary probe
from the developer is the instruction make access to the menu, because
Redoffice has no menu, so application crashes. In case of the similar
problems in the future, we feel having the ability of developing this
tool would be better. So we can modify the tool accordingly when our
Redoffice changes. So we need some information about how to start and
some necessary backgroud knowledge.

There is a (german only) thesis about the VCLTestTool which I could put
online if it helps. Maybe some automatic translation is good enough to
give you a clue about it.
I would be curious to know what you plan to modify? I the could write
