I think its good to separate core and extensions. If extensions are distributed
with mercurial, they are as bugfree as possible. They could even be enabled by
default, however I do not think that would be a good idea as one of mercurials
features is that its interface is so simple in the basic config.

No, I have no special privileges at this point. I took part in the pilot just
like others did and provided feedback just like others did. The final decision
is with RelEng, and rightly so, as they do most of the heavy lifting
(merging and repo administration is the critical part with any DSCM).
I just happen to really like mercurial because of the experience in the pilot.

Fortunately, the most important extensions are distributed with mercurial and
thus not subject to compatibility issues (this is why I didnt propose to use to
collapse extension when the functionality is available in a extension
distributed with mercurial.

Wrappers are roadblocks on the learning curve (because you cannot add know-how
about features on a step-by-step base).
