Yes, this does affect us. We discussed moving to gitbox some time ago, but at the time decided to wait until we graduated to TLP. But I don't think it was raised again since graduation.
The main impact is that the URL of the trafodion repo will change again. So anyone that has a workspace will need to update the references to point to the new location. I was thinking this would affect all developer work-spaces, but looking at it again, I think it only affects references to git-wip-us server (the apache repo). Anyone referring to the github read-only mirror would be unaffected. So, primarily committers are affected. There is some bit of disruption. We just need to decide when we want to schedule it or wait for the mass migration. There are definite benefits for the committers, since we would be able to use github interface to merge changes rather than the manual git command line that we use now. To use that benefit, the committers must take steps to link their apache and github IDs together, including using 2-factor authentication with github. I have already linked my IDs. The github 2-factor authentication sounds like a pain, but after the initial set-up, is no problem at all. I only need to do extra authentication when using a new device to access github. --Steve > -----Original Message----- > From: Pierre Smits <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, December 7, 2018 11:51 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Fwd: [NOTICE] Mandatory relocation of Apache git repositories on > git-wip-us.apache.org > > Hi All, > > I noticed the posting below.
