Thanks Steve. Turns out I provisioned a RHEL 6.8 instead of a 6.6. I started over w/ a centos 6.6 and was able to build all by following the clear install doc.
I've run out of time so am not able to carry my testing further standing up an actual instance. But I am +1 because I checked the signature (I need to sign your key next time we meet Steve) and hash. I ran the rat tests (Do I need to submit a patch to change RAT_README to do the Hans suggestion instead?). Did a review of the layout and all looked good. And it builds.
