This may not be quite what you had in mind but a while back someone created
an SCA diagram stencil for Visio [1], lots of people wont have Visio so
maybe we should create a similar template for OpenOffice Draw and make that
available on the Tuscany website so anyone can use it to create good looking
pictures. (Disclaimer, i know little about OpenOffice Draw but googling it
it does seem to have a stencil facility)

My starting point is here (
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tuscany/sandbox/slaws/scatemplate.odg).
Nothing clever though, just cut and paste drawing from this point. haven't
worked out how to make these 1st class symbols.
I did work out how to add different line ends and create custom formats but
that didn't stretch to whole symbols. Maybe someone else knows how.
This scatemplate.odg file prompted me to download openoffice.org 3.0 and
fire up the Draw program.
I am really impressed with the oo Draw 3.0 version. The basic 2D objects
now have some nice features that make it easy to do Tuscany
composite/assembly diagrams like connectors and lines of all different
shapes and sizes and endpoints. So this has me satisfied for now.
It also has some really goofy graphic features that can help wake up the
audience. Just wait until you see my SCA component symbol with golden
gradient, diamond sparkling shimmering, scrolling marquee, animated
dancing motion, and audio effects. It has to be the blingee-est, most
impressive SCA component yet!
