I've just started adding a runtime overview page to the 2.x docs pages [1]. Not much there yet but I think it will be useful to have a page that gives an overview, i.e. not huge amounts of detail, of the big design ideas of the 2.x runtime to ease prospective developers in. For example, OSGi, Endpoints, runtime lifecycle etc. Not sure all the headings I listed there are good or even belong on the page. If you want to throw in ideas or text then of course just jump in.
