Thanks for the good suggestions. I changed the patch accordingly (one-liner,
catch only IOException).
Also, probably triggering another round of comments, I added logging which
helped me while trying to run an application remotely, esp. on a slower uplink.
Additionally, I extracted re-occuring String constants into final statics.
Should I open separate issues for any of the latter changes?
