[udk-dev] how to read a calc file without opening a window

Is there a java API method to open a spreadsheet document for reading without opening the *.sxc a Calc window? The examples seem to focus on creating new documents on screen and writing to them. I need to read existing documents and don't need them open on screen in Calc, although I'll live with that if I have to.
