Hello Ian,
I am also interested in coupling R functionality with oocalc using Python.
I planned to try such things when I finish the jobs I am busy with. I have
written some code in Python that performs statistical calculations, too - I
planned to start with integrating them to OO.
What platform are you using? I am not sure I can help. I use Gentoo Linux,
and RPy compilation worked for me out of the box. RPy installation problems
are often discussed on the PRy mailing list. You could ask there, too.
An other idea: you could try running RPy with your native Python
installation, which should be easy to set up - and pass objects to/from the
Python of OO with PyRO (pyro.sf.net). PyRO is pure python so it must be easy
to use with the Python of OO.
