Thanks to Joerg's tests, problems for the bootstrap implementation have been discovered on Windows only. That is because certain constants are only available on *ix/Mac, like os.WNOHANG among other small things. I see what I can find out, but it's like there is no fully clean way to launch processes independent from the platform they're running on with Python 2.3 (2.4 seems not to have made big improvements on this subject either). The only possibility I yet found out to make all the checking under Win32 is to use Mark Hammond's win32all package, but that's not really a choice for us, since we don't want to make use of 3rd party Python modules. If anyone with Python knowledge has a good solution, please contribute. Thanks.
