Debian 3.1 with python 2.3/2.4 (both version has the same problem)
and OOo 2.0.0 it downloaded, without any modify at OOo-python internal.
michele:~$ python2.3
Python 2.3.5 (#2, May 4 2005, 08:51:39)
[GCC 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-12)] on linux2
michele:~$ python2.4
Python 2.4.2 (#2, Nov 20 2005, 17:04:48)
[GCC 4.0.3 20051111 (prerelease) (Debian 4.0.2-4)] on linux2
are you python built with ucs = 2 flag (default)
I experienced some problem with debian built-in python as it uses ucs = 4
This directly impact the utf-8/utf-16 handling
