Hi all,
In the future we intent to add more features to OOo extensions. These
features will then only work with a particular version of OOo.
Unfortunately we have currently no way to express dependencies for
extensions. That is, one cannot determine that an extension requires at
least version 2.0.4 of OOo. In later versions we will have that
mechanism. If we assume that it will become available with 2.0.4, then
an extension can be determined to work in 2.0.4 or any later version.
However, it can be installed in versions earlier than 2.0.4 without
problem. We do not want to change the file format or manifest.xml in an
incompatible way, because new extensions should still work with older
versions of OOo by default.
We already thought of changing the media types for libraries, xcu/xcs
files, basic scripts. Then extensions which use the new types would
definetly not work in an old office. But we are still undecided if this
is a good thing to do.
Maybe you have a good idea how to achieve this. Any ideas are welcome.
Kind regards,
Joachim
