Annotation Editor synchronizes annotations very slowly after its first opened

After the Annotation Editor is opened it can take many seconds until all
annotations are actually displayed in the editor.
This seems to be caused by the usage of the AnnotationModel where each
annoation is added individual, instead of one bulk add.
