Sorry, this is my mistake.  You are correct, the revision should be rev
1544712.  And, this morning, when I removed all my local changes and made sure
the source was matching the svn, it built without hanging (which it was doing
yesterday with htlatex step).  So I must have had some flakyness in my local 
copy.

In examining the debug output I see why htlatex is not running in nonstopmode. 
The Maven plugin is executing this command:

latex "-interaction=nonstopmode --src-specials" ...

and latex then says:

warning: Ignoring unknown argument `nonstopmode --src-specials' to --interaction

in other words, it's taking the whole string after the = sign to be the value of
the interaction parameter.
